I am Chris, a freelance web developer based in Cheltenham. I build WordPress websites and WooCommerce stores, and I look after them afterwards. Which is the part most people find harder to buy than the build itself.
A studio of one, deliberately
Chris D Projects isn’t an agency, and that’s the point. When you hire an agency you meet a salesperson, brief an account manager, and your work is built by whoever is free that week. Three layers sit between the person who understands your business and the person typing the code.
Here there are no layers. The person you have the first conversation with is the person who writes the code, fixes the bug at 9pm, and picks up the phone eighteen months later when something breaks. That constrains how much work I can take on, and it’s worth it.
What I do
WordPress is my platform of choice and has been for years. Flexible enough for bespoke work, simple enough to hand back to a client, and supported well enough to still be a sensible bet a decade from now. I am also a Wix Partner and a Shopify Partner, which mostly matters because it means I can tell you straight when WordPress is the wrong answer.
Day to day the work splits roughly into new builds, WooCommerce projects, bespoke plugin development, ongoing care plans, and rescuing sites that somebody else built and nobody maintained. That last category has grown steadily. There are a lot of five-year-old WordPress installs out there quietly waiting for something to go wrong.
How I work
- I meet clients before taking work on. Usually over a coffee somewhere in Cheltenham. It costs nothing and it stops both of us wasting time on a project that was never going to fit.
- You get a quote before anything begins. Written, based on real scope.
- Remote is fine. Phone, Teams, Google Chat, whatever suits. The operation is entirely paperless, so I can work from anywhere with a connection.
- I don’t disappear at launch. Every website includes 90 days of Essential care and 30 days of free technical support.
Cheltenham and Gloucestershire
I am based in Cheltenham and a good share of my clients are within half an hour of it. Gloucester, Tewkesbury, Stroud, Cirencester and the villages between. Being local helps: it’s easier to understand a business when you’ve seen it, and easier to trust someone you’ve met.
That said, plenty of work is remote and always has been. If you’re elsewhere in the UK and the fit is right, distance has never been the problem.
No Problem Hosting
Hosting runs through our sister company, No Problem Hosting. Fast UK servers, free SSL and daily backups. Keeping it separate means you’re never locked in: your site is yours, and it can live wherever you want it to.
Let’s talk
Whether it’s a first website, a WooCommerce store that needs untangling, or a site that has just been hacked, get in touch and we will work out whether I am the right person for it.
